What is Content Marketing?

Content marketing is a planned marketing approach that focuses on creating and sharing valuable, helpful and interesting information that your ideal audience will find useful.  It helps to grab their attention and keeps them coming back for more.

By sharing helpful information to potential and existing customers, it helps to build trust and brand loyalty over time.  It helps you to establish yourself as an expert in your field and build stronger connections with potential clients.

Before your start using Content Marketing

Using Content Marketing in your business needs to be strategic or you're going to waste a lot of time.  You're not going to create content just for the sake of it, you're going to create content that helps to move your ideal customer from being an on-looker to becoming a customer.

So before you start you need to know who you are trying to attract to your business, what their problem or challenges are and how you can help them.  Then you can work out your customer journey.  Once you know the steps of your customer journey then you can create content to help them move through that journey.

Think about what they need to know before they are ready to buy.  What do they need to know once they have bought to maximise their experience. And then what do they need to know to come back and buy again from you, hopefully many times.

Examples of content marketing with pink ticks in a circle and words blog posts, email newsletters, social media posts, workshops/webinars, ebooks/pdfs, video tutorials, case studies

7 examples of content marketing that can help you attract new customers

1. Informative Blog Posts - Write helpful posts on topics that offer valuable information and practical tips for your ideal audience

2. Email Newsletters - Send out regular newsletters with updates, success stories, and helpful advice aiming to build a deeper connection with your audience

3. Social Media Posts with Tips and Advice - Use platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest and LinkedIn to share bite-sized tips, inspirational quotes, or quick advice creating a friendly and interactive online presence

4. Workshops or Webinars - Host virtual events where you share your knowledge engaging with your audience in real time and offering them a taste of your expertise

5. eBooks or PDFs -  Create guides or informative resources related to  your field of expertise, providing in-depth knowledge and establishing yourself  as the go-to person in your field

6. Video Tutorials or Demonstrations - Create simple and friendly video tutorials sharing easy-to-follow techniques or step-by-step guides

7. Case Studies or Success Stories - Share real-life examples of how your services or products have positively impacted your clients, demonstrating the benefits others could potentially get too

What are the benefits of Content Marketing?

Content marketing offers lots of benefits  for businesses including:

❤︎  Increased Brand Awareness - By creating valuable and relevant content, you can boost your brand's visibility and recognition among your ideal audience

❤︎ More Audience Engagement - Engaging content can create a strong connection with your audience, encouraging them to interact with your brand and build a sense of community

❤︎  Become the Go-To Person - Sharing helpful and useful content can position you as an industry expert, helping you gain credibility and trust with your peers and potential clients

❤︎ Improved Search Engine Visibility - Creating SEO-optimised content can enhance your website's search engine rankings, making it easier for potential customers to discover your business online

❤︎ Lead Generation and Conversion - Creating high-quality content that is relevant to your ideal client can attract potential leads and guide them through your sales funnel, increasing the likelihood of converting them from a visitor to a customer

❤︎ Cost-Effective Marketing -  Compared to paid for traditional advertising, content marketing is often cheaper and more cost-effective and has the potential for long-term benefits.  For example, blogs can be found in searches years after being written so continue to work for you

❤︎ Customer Loyalty and Retention -  Consistently delivering valuable content can help with customer loyalty, encouraging them to buy from your business again and increasing customer retention rates

    Drawbacks of Content Marketing

While content marketing can be very beneficial, it's unfortunately not necessarily a quick win.  It is part of a long-term plan so let me share with you some potential drawbacks:

ⓧ Time-Consuming - Creating high-quality content takes time and effort, which can be challenging, especially if you're juggling the many balls of running a business at the same time

ⓧ Requires Consistency - To keep your audience engaged, you need to consistently produce fresh and valuable content, which can be demanding and may require a significant time commitment

ⓧ Results May Take Time - Building a loyal audience and seeing real results from content marketing often requires patience, as it may take time for your efforts to translate into increased visibility and customer engagement

ⓧ Content Overload - With the abundance of content available online, it can be challenging to make your content stand out and capture your audience's attention effectively

ⓧ Measurement Challenges: it can be hard to measure the direct impact content marketing has on your business, as it may be challenging to attribute specific conversions or sales directly to your content efforts

By understanding these potential drawbacks in advance it can help you to prepare ways to limit their impact and maximize the benefits of your content marketing efforts.

Now despite the drawbacks, please don't let them put you off. Content marketing can do wonders for your small business. It's like having a friendly chat with your customers and showing them all the amazing things you can do. It helps people know about your brand, trust you more, and keep coming back for more of your fantastic stuff.

Plus, it's like a secret recipe to make your business shine brighter online without costing you a fortune.

So grab yourself a notepad and map out your customer journey, noting what information you need to share to get them to move from 1 step to the next.  Then get yourself a calendar or diary and start planning out what content you are going to create , and when and how you are going to share it.

And if you need help, get in touch, I'd love to help you.
