  • Hesitated before pressing Post on Facebook or Instagram
  • Would love to do a Facebook live but worry what others will think
  • You’ve written a blog but just couldn’t bring yourself to hit publish.

Getting seen online is essential for your ideal clients to find you. Let me help you tame your mind monkeys so you can feel confident showing up online.

I’m absolutely sure that everybody who has in business has a fear of being seen online to some degree and that their Mind Monkeys come into play when they are about to do something that is outside of their comfort zone.

So what are Mind Monkeys?

Well, my mind monkey is called Negative Nancy and she sits right here on my left shoulder. And anytime I do anything that is going to take me further forward in my business she shows up.  That nagging little voice in my ear “Who do you think you are?  Putting yourself out there. Giving your advice. How dare you share your knowledge and your experience with everybody!  Stop right now and go back into your little corner.”

That’s what she tries to do. Push me back into that little corner, but I’m refusing because I have experiences and information to share with you. And I know that you get mind monkeys too. Everybody does. Normally when you’re doing something that is outside of your comfort zone.

So today we are going to address those and see if we can get rid of some of them for you because if you are going to be growing your business you need to grow your online audience.  And growing your online audience means that you have to be seen.

Now that could be being seen on your Facebook page, on your Facebook profile, it could be in your Facebook group. It could be an Instagram. It could be on your website, could be on Pinterest with your LinkedIn or Google my business.  So many different ways of getting seen online, but in order for your ideal clients to find you have to be seen online.

Okay, so what I want you to do is I want you to imagine now that you are going to be writing a social media post or a blog post or that you’re going to do a Facebook live in front of your online audience.  And you’re going to share some knowledge that your ideal clients will find helpful. 

Tune into that feeling of being seen, of being potentially judged.  Now as you’re thinking about that how does that make you feel? 

Do you feel a bit scared?

Does it make you feel a little bit sick?

A little bit anxious?

And check in with your body, where can you feel that feeling in your body? Your stomach, your chest, your throat?

Give it a number – On a scale of 0 to 10 how do you feel  Where 0 is no bad feelings at all, all is perfectly fine, I’m super confident, and you don’t mind doing it at all.  And 10 is, oh my God, please do not make me do it! 

Make a mental note of your feelings, where they are in your body and the number they are.

Emotional Freedom Technique – EFT – aka Tapping

I’m going to show you how you can use tapping to help to release the fear of being seen and all the negative feelings that go with it. Now, if you haven’t used EFT before EFT stands for emotional freedom technique, it’s a very simple technique.  However, it can have amazing transformations.

  • SH – Side of the hand
  • TH – Top of Head
  • EB – Eyebrow
  • SE – Side of Eye
  • UE – Under Eye
  • UN – Under Nose
  • CH – Chin
  • CB – Collarbone
  • UA – Under Arm

Repeat after me, outloud or in your mind…

Side of the hand – Even though I have this fear of being seen, I’m learning to love and accept myself anyway

Side of the hand – Even though I have this fear of being seen, I’m learning to love and accept myself anyway

Side of the hand – Even though I have this fear of being seen online, I’m learning to love and accept myself just the way I am

 

TH – The fear of being seen

EB – I’m afraid of being seen

SE – Who am I to show up?

UE – Who am I to create blog posts?

UN – Who am I to create social media posts?

CH – I start to create them because I want to share what I know

CB – But then my mind monkeys, my negative Nancy stops me.

UA – They tell me I’m good enough

TH  – I’m scared of being seen online

EB – I’m afraid of being judged

SE – I don’t really want to do it. What I’d really like is for my clients just to find me

UE – is for my clients somehow, miraculously, miraculously, find me and want me to have that.

UN – But I know in real life, that’s not going to happen.

CH – And I know I need to show up, but that scares me.

CB – I don’t want anyone to judge me

UA – I don’t want to feel scared

Take a deep breath and check back in with your body and your mind.  How are you feeling? Has the feeling changed?  Has your number gone up or down?

Round 2

Lets do another round…

Side of Hand – Even though I want to grow my business, I want to attract more clients, but I’m afraid of being seen, I’m learning to love myself.

Side of hand – Even though I want to grow my business, I want to attract my ideal clients. And I know in order to do that, I have to tell them where I am, how they can contact me, but that makes me scared, but I’m learning to love me anyway, without judgment

Side of hand – Even though I really want to grow my business, I really want to attract more of my ideal clients. And I know the best way to do that is for my clients to be able to find me.  But that makes me scared. but I’m learning to love myself just the way I am.

TH – I want to grow my business

EB – I need to be seen online

SE – I need to grow my business

UE – I want my business to succeed and in order for my business to succeed I need clients

UN – I need regular clients, who come back to me on a regular basis.

CH – But in order for my clients to find me,I need to be seen

CB – They need to know where to find me

UA – They need to know that I can help them with their problems.

TH – And in order to do that, I have to show up.

EB – I have to start getting out there

SE – I have to tell them what I can do for them

UE – How I can provide the solution they’re looking for

UN – Whether I do that through Facebook, whether I do that through Instagram or my website or by creating blogs. Or any other way

CH – I know I need to show up

CB – But that scares me because I really don’t want to show up.

UA – What if I get it wrong?

TH – What if they don’t like what I’m saying?

EB – What if they judge me?

SE – What if I’m talking and they make nasty comments

UE – I’m so scared of being seen online

UN – Please don’t make me do it

CH – Please let me be able to crawl back into my corner and let my clients still find me.

CB – I know. I need to be seen in whichever way I can.

UA – And I know my mind monkeys show up. I know my negative Nancy will be in my ear

TH – Because I’m growing and they’re trying to keep me safe

EB – They don’t want me to grow

SE – They’re trying to keep me in my comfort zone

UE – But my clients aren’t in my comfort zone

UN – So I’m wondering if I can release some of this fear

CH – This fear in my stomach

CB – This scared feeling

UA – This feeling in my throat and my chest

TH – The mind monkeys in my head

EB – All of these negative thoughts

SE – I wonder if they could leave

UE – I wonder if I can tell them to go away

UN – I’m taking some deep breaths. I’m concentrating on where that fear is showing up in my body and I’m allowing it to leave

CH – I can do this

CB – I can show up

UA – I can be seen online and know that my ideal clients will get me

 

Take a deep breath and check back in with your body and your mind.  How are you feeling? Has the feeling changed?  Has your number gone up or down?

Continue tapping until the number has come down to a 0.  Remember to change the words to your own to make it as effective as possible.  Remember there are no wrong words, just how you are feeling.

Sit with your emotions and notice exactly what comes up for you when you think about putting yourself out there and promoting your business.

  • What do you feel?
  • Where do you feel it in your body?
  • Give it a number on a scale of 0-10
  • Do a round of tapping
  • Check it how you feel now
  • If you need further work – rinse and repeat!
