How to make your website work for you at Christmas

With another 2 weeks before Christmas at the time of writing this blog post, I thought I would share how you can make your website work for you during the festive season.  It’s not late and these 5 ideas won’t take you too long at all but could bring you in some more sales.

1. Change your header photo to a festive scene

Why not change your header image to something more festive during this time, so that when your visitors land on your website, they instantly feel more Christmas-y.  After all, if you can decorate your home and your tree why not add some festive cheer to your website!

If you sell products maybe incorporate your products into the image too as a subtle (or not!) way of sharing what you sell.  Layout your goods alongside some holly, Christmas baubles or on the branches of a tree and get snapping with your camera.

Check out Unsplash.com or pixabay.com for copyright-free images to add to your website, if you’re not using your own.

2. Showcase Your Christmas Gift Ideas

And following on from sharing what you sell, why not create a Christmas Gift Ideas list.  If you sell products and services showcase them off and make suggestions for who they would be suitable for and why.

Your customers are always looking for inspiration when it comes to buying the perfect gift so why not share with them some options you offer.  You could do this in a blog and then share it on your social media platforms too.  Don’t forget to include your Call To Action buttons so it easy for them to buy.

This is a blog from my client Joon Silver showcasing her jewellery sets for Christmas!

3. Sell Gift Vouchers

Gift vouchers make a great gift at any time but especially Christmas for the person who is hard to buy for.  If you offer them in your business, make sure your customers can buy yours easily from your business.  Make a tab called Gift Vouchers and add it onto your Main Menu so that visitors know how to buy them from you and make it simple.  Or add a clickable banner that takes your clients to the place they can order them from you.  My client VoiceCare have done this on their website – see below.

4. Send a Newsletter

Share your Christmas wishes via an email newsletter.  You can let your old and potential customers know what you have to offer them in the way of your Christmas Gift Ideas, let them know when you are open and closed during the run-up to Christmas and New Year or simply send them grateful thanks for their business this year.

It’s always good to touch base with your email list and remind them you’re still there.

I love to use Mailerlite for my emails but there are lots of other email marketing providers out there such as MailChimp, that you can integrate with your website and start collecting their email addresses with.

And if you are including Christmas gift ideas, make sure you include links where they can buy them from you too.  Whether it’s in-store or online – I’ll say it again, make it easy for them to buy!

5. Add a Countdown to your website

Adding a bit of urgency always helps as a reminder when people are buying.  Ask any store owners how many Christmas presents are bought on Christmas Eve and I’m sure they will tell you there’s still lots of last-minute buyers who leave it just before the big day to buy – and then probably spend more than they would have if they had bought early.  So definitely add a touch of urgency to your purchases.

And if you’re a Divi theme user, it’s super easy to add a module called Countdown Timer and modify it to your needs.  1 of the reasons why I’m a big fan of Divi – they help to make it easy!
